Alcohol and Drug Issues

Persons who become dependent upon alcohol and/or other drugs significantly affect the lives of at least six other persons -- family, friends and co-workers.

Some common symptoms of the Alcohol/Drug Dependent Person are:

Increased tolerance • Loss of control/ predictability • Denial • Dishonesty about use • Hides supply • Changes friends • Attempts to control use and fails • Rationalizes use • Change in personality • Guilt about use • Uses secretly or alone • Job problems • Relationship problems.

Some common symptoms of the affected family, friends, and co-workers are:

Rationalizes behavior of user • Feels guilty • Doubts sanity • Unable to discuss problems • Avoids family and friends • Makes excuses to others • Attempts to control user fail • Suffers physical problems • Makes idle threats • Becomes immobilized • Work problems • Impaired thinking • Unreasonable resentments.
